Hi guys,
I am new at the site and overclocking, some guys may already know my name from Einstein @ home.

I recently bought an AMD 64 3800+, 1Gb mem, Asus SLI-deluxe motherboard, Asus Extreme 6800GT (one), and 2 SATA 200Gb HD RAID.

To be honest, i expected my PC to be quite good, but i am not really satisfied with its performance. Obviously I am doing something wrong or missed something. I would be grateful if you can guide me (reply at this post, recommend a thread or a tutorial) on how to optimize my computer.

Thanks in advance

Hi Leontios....
welcome to our site.......
please tell us in which way you think your computer isn't performing well...
you use specific programs?.....
tell us more about it so we can help you as much as we can

First of all , in order to have a better view , run a few benchmark tools like Sandra 05 and give us detailed list of your equipment to see if there is a particular reason for not running as it should be, for example slow HDD.

I think your aquamark 3 score is quite good....
could you tell specifically where your computer isn't performing well?
for example, your Windows are loading slowly, or you play a game and you have a low average of frames?

For example Doom3. Ok I know it's programmed very well but in 1280x1024 with v.high graphs is sooooooooooooooooo, slow!

I wasnt expecting that kind of performance at 1280.

have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your hardware?
in doom3, have you set full antiliasing and anisotropic......?
because doom3 is very demanding in hardware.....

I know is demanding in hardware! but gimme a break! what more should I buy?????

you don't need to buy anything......
change your resolution to 1024x768.........
anyone uses this resolution........
the game's performance will change......it will be faster......
you have a very good system..... and take in to your consideration my questions in previous post

Thanks for your tips. I'll try and stay to 1024. I thought it was something wrong with my PC but since you say that the Aquamark3 score is good i'll just have to lower my expectations from my PC.

your pc is fine...... just when you see that your pc is slow because of high resolution or anything else...... try to lower it a little bit.....
i estimate that doom3 will be played at full graphics in next generation computers(specifically new gen graphics cards)

Leontios, use FRAPS and tell us what is the frames average when you play Doom3. The 6800GT should play Doom3 very well even at 1280x1024. I know, because i also own a 6800GT.

Actually, your Aquamark score is a bit low. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be able to play all modern games.

Also try to use the Riva Tuner utility. De-activate "V-sync" and 'Table fog emulation" and try Doom3 again.

HD-tach and HD-tune utilities can be used to chech your Hard drives performance. I see you have SP2 installed. Try to uninstall it.

Buy another 6800GT and your might be able to run DOOM3 at full settings.

Well, try a good format and use a tweaking utility to change your VGA's settings for maximum performance and NOT maximum quality as you dont see any improvement in quality while it slows you down. This may be the reason.Use optimal settings.

Did you max out the in-game settings in doom3?
Because it allows up to 16x antialiasing , no card can handle 16x AA in doom3.

Try running the doom3 timedemo , using some common settings (like 1280x1024 , high quality , 4xAA) , it should show if your card performs like it should.
